2014 Photo Journal - Day 88 - Val
Val is my new Border Collie. She is 6 years old and is such a sweet dog. She is trained, but has not been shown for several years, so she and I are "learning" each other. I got her when I went to East Texas. The only time she was still on our walk about this evening was when she was wondering what I was doing and looking up at me!

2014 Photo Journal - Day 84 - Turkey Hen
This is in an oak mott which is right outside our yard and driveway. It is unusual for wild turkey to come so close to our house, so it was fun to sneak outside and catch a couple of shots! It is nesting time, so we're thinking she has a nest somewhere close and came to get a drink of water at the trough!

2014 Photo Journal - Day 83 - Baby Swallowtail
We were working in the garden today, and we found a shiny blue beetle - but low and behold it was really a swallowtail butterfly just out of its chrysalis - the first I have ever seen!!! I put it in a jar to take a photo, but it changed into a butterfly in just a few minutes!!! This photo was taken after I had turned it loose. The photo below is one taken to show the size. Isn't nature grand?!!!

Though not as good as Sharon's - scarf done in Stockinette Stitch.
Yarn: Trendsetter "Serene" silk,cotton, viscose, linen, lurex, & nylon.
Needles: size 8 bamboo.
I LOVE this yarn and like using bamboo needles, which is new to me.

2014 Photo Journal - Day 80 - Big Crane
Unlike Lucy, I put up more than one photo! Plus, this was another yesterday photo, but I did so much and saw so much, just had to include it in my photo journal. This is a large crane working in a mine in East Texas. I wish I had some gauge for you to understand just how large it was. If you enlarge the first photo, you will see another work vehicle which is about the size of our pickup truck. The second photo shows the bucket and it was larger than my pickup truck. Not something we see here in Central Texas at all.

2014 Photo Journal - Day 76 - Sweet Surprise
Today was our guild meeting, and my dear friend Becky made this quilt. She showed it during our "Show and Tell" time and then she gifted it to me!! I shed a few tears - of joy you mind you! What a sweet, sweet gift to me, as she knows I love stars!! She had won the blocks from our guild BOM for December. It is hand quilted and I will treasure it always! It is perfect to cuddle under while watching TV!!

2014 Photo Journal - Day 67 - Knitted Scarf/Shawl
I finished the scarf that I was knitting that matches the earmuff band that I made. It is so soft!! Hind sight is 20/20, and I would have made it a little narrower for just a scarf - but it could double as a shawl (I've never worn a shawl before!) and it is definitely big enough to wrap around my had and my neck all at once! I've won't be getting cold!!

2014 Photo Journal - Day 60 - Quilter's Treasure!
A friend was given a big bag of sewing items. She shorted through them and thought I would like these quilt patterns that depict Farm Life. I was excited, and after further investigation, found that these are Ruby Short McKin patterns published in the Fort Worth Star-Telegram in 1930! All 25 blocks are here and the paper is in amazing condition. Needless to say this will be a quilt that I will make someday!!

2014 Photo Journal - Day 59 - Road Trip
Made an ~260 mile road trip today. Traveled to Mandie's (DD#2) baby shower, then made a swing to see Mollie (DD#3) and deliver her birthday cake. On the way home I got to watch this glorious sunset for about 1/2 hour!
