Gather...Sheep Dog Trial Style

This week's Photo Challenge at Our Beautiful World is "Gather". An interesting concept to photograph and I enjoyed every photo listed in the linkup. But for me "Gather" signifies bringing in livestock. These are photos of my Border Collie, Tate. He died in 2013, so these are old photos. In Sheep Dog Trialing, the Gather is comprised of three components - 1) Outrun - the dog is released from the side of the handler, to make a large pear shaped run around the sheep. The dog must arrive at the opposite side of the sheep and not disturb them in the process. 2) Lift - Once the dog has completed the outrun, he must begin moving the stock in an orderly manner toward the handler. 3) Fetch - The dog now brings the sheep to the handler, quietly and as much in a straight path as possible.

Tate being released for his outrun.

Tate has arrived at the back of the sheep, lifted them and has begun the fetch.

Tate has completed the fetch and is holding the stock in position close to me, the handler.

  1. Tate did a great job, I know you miss him so much! I love Border Collies, though we have never had one, my grandmother had one when I was a child, he was just a pet, but so sweet!.
    Thanks for sharing.
    Blessings,
